About Our Artists' Challenges

Renewing the Renaissance® provides dignity and pride to each of our artists, paying them fairly for their work and offering a sense of normalcy. In the interest of fostering normalcy and to preserve the artists' privacy, we do not disclose information about their specific challenges. Even with issues ranging from high-functioning autism to executive functioning challenges such as language and social issues, these artists can proudly thrive with our nurturing and support.

Philip

Born in San Jose, California, Philip Ma began drawing and painting at age four when he was inspired by the characters in Disney movies. “I think I totally surprised my family for drawing non-stop hours during my childhood—that had them worried all the time.”

To support his interest in art, his parents enrolled him in a local art studio when Philip was nine. The experience expanded Philip’s vision of how artists could express themselves through various mediums—not only did he study drawing and painting, but he was also introduced to sculpture, ceramics, and computer graphics techniques. His passion and talent for art was recognized in high school and Philip was awarded several honors, including the Excellence in Visual Arts Awards in 2000 and 2003 and Third Place in Visual Arts given by the San Francisco Asian Pacific Fund in 2000.

Philip joined the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in Fall of 2007 and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in animation and visual effects in December 2011. As a passionate art enthusiast, Philip devotes himself to capture the beauty of the world in his unique visual art forms.
